Freedom of Doing Business in Albania

At the initiative of the Ministry of Economic Development, Tourism, Trade and Entrepreneurship, on March 2016 it was organized a meeting to present the steps that the Albanian government has pursued within the freedom of doing business. The Minister stated the commitment of the government to improve business climate and the need for consultation with the business initiatives in this field, needs for establishment of legal and procedural infrastructure facilities for all businesses operating in Albania. Government’s commitment to short steps will affect Albania’s positive ranking for Doing Business 2017 Report.

Porto Albania, a new Investment on Yacht Harbor

“Porto Albania” is a project led by the Swiss investment and project management company FINSEC Ltd Zug and its Albanian subsidiary FINSEC Port SHA Tirana, which will construct Albania’s first international yacht harbor with capacity to accommodate about 720 yachts, and a chain of supportive campus of hotels, residences, restaurants, shopping centers and sport fields on the ground, aiming to become a real benchmark for the tourist industry in Albania and abroad.

EBRD Delegation visits Albania in frame of the creation of the Business Ombudsman Institution

The EBRD and the Government of Albania in early 2014 have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on improving the investment climate in Albania, laying out a number of areas for cooperation between the Government and EBRD, in the areas of improving economic governance, combating corruption and tackling informality. The MoU also envisaged the two parties expanding the field of EBRD engagement in a gradual manner, in order to assist the Government with new policy reform priorities.

1 (1)The Black Sea Trade and Development Bank (BSTDB) and the Foreign Investors Association of Albania signed a Memorandum of Understanding aiming to establish mutual beneficial cooperation, supporting efforts for favorable conditions for regional investments and promoting awareness of activities of both bodies in Albania and to the greater Black Sea region. The Ambassador of Switzerland in Albania, Mr Christoph Graf hosted in February 2016 a business event with representatives of business organizations and present Swiss Business Community in Albania. The meeting aimed the presentation of the Corporate Governance Institute Albania and a success story for CSR in Albania. The Chairman of CSR Network in Albania and General Manager of ANTEA, TITAN Group, Mr. Adamantios Frantzis presented the success story of Antea Cement in Albania.

Present businesses had the chance to ask questions, discuss on cooperation opportunities and common concerns towards business environment in Albania.

Draft Law on Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Albania

In February 2016 an amended Draft Law on “Chambers of Commerce and Industry”, was submitted to the Parliamentary Commissions for discussion. The Draft Law proposes returning of compulsory membership of all business at the chambers of commerce and industry. FIAA Representatives asked to be present in these Commissions and requested the withdrawal and redistribution of the Draft Law for wider consultation with the business Stakeholders.

Business Environment Index and Law impact assessment in Albania for 2015

In frame of the cooperation with Business Alliance of Slovakia on Project, “Improving Business Environment in Albania”, FIAA finalized the Four Quarters Chart for Business Environment Index during Year 2015. The results refer to the main objectives of the survey which are the Index of the Business Environment and the Assessment of the Laws impact in Albania for year 2015.

The results were gathered mainly from businesses operating on Energy, Mining and Hydrocarbons sectors and were focused on changes in the Business Environment elements in Albania and the identification of key trends and barriers to business.

Meetings with Embassy of Sweden

FIAA highest Representatives were invited by the Swedish Ambassador to participate in two round table meetings organized under the care of the Embassy of Sweden aiming to gather information on the most pressing challenges on investing and doing business in Albania. The Swedish ambassador and other invited ambassadors gave focus on how these challenges could be tackled. One raising issue seen as highly important was the issue of energy Sector.
