The Board of Directors of FIAA has just established a new European Integration Committee to focus on legal issues arising from legal compliance with the EU acquis. The purpose of FIAA’s European Integration Committee is as follows:

• To qualify information collected from our members on areas of legislation which, if adjusted to the EU acquis, will benefit businesses and the country.
• To research EU legislation and prepare any necessary documentation, including a presentation of the benefits of any adjustments to legislation.

The closing Conference of the EU Cross Border Project “Virtual Action-Real Results” was hold in Korca with the participation of Project Teams, the Stakeholder Working Groups and other key players of the Tourism Industry in the Region.

During the Conference was made a presentation of the implemented activities, achieved results and the products gained with the Project Action (Inventory/Data Base, Virtual Software tool, Manual on the Virtual Software tool, Guidebook on “Appropriate behavior with the clients”, Handbook “How to be successfully presented on the Fair”, Marketing Strategy and its related products, promotional and advertisement materials (leaflets, brochure/travel guide, and other promotional materials which were distributed to the participants.

FIAA held the General Assembly Elections Meeting on 18 February to elect its new President and appoint five new members to its Board of Directors.
In his opening speech, outgoing FIAA President Patrick Pascal welcomed all FIAA members and expressed his gratitude for their support during his Presidency over the previous four years. He also wished success to the new President and Board of Directors in their efforts to make FIAA an even stronger business association with an even deeper impact on the business environment of the country.

The meeting continued with a presentation of FIAA’s activities in 2014 by Executive Director Marinela Jazoj. The presentation included the association’s 2014 accounts, compiled by auditing company Baker Tilly Albania. Ms Jazoj highlighted once more the mission of FIAA to support the success of its members by promoting a healthy business environment in Albania and providing high-quality business information and resources.

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama announced a number of reforms when he attended FIAA’s traditional annual Wishes for a Successful Business Year ceremony on 27 January, accompanied by ministers of the Government of Albania, ambassadors and members of the business community.

Mr Rama told FIAA members of the government’s plan to assemble the first Investment Council for Albania in co-operation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). “The National Economic Council is the introduction of a new chapter in the relations with economic actors in Albania, while the Investment Council is a step further, because it will represent a section of economic policy-making in our country,” Mr Rama said.

“I would like to thank you very much for the invitation, giving me the pleasure to addressing you and thank you to Foreign Investors Association of Albania that organises this annual event.

FIAA was among the backers of the Albania Oil, Gas & Energy 2015 Summit held on March 17-18 in Tirana. The summit was attended by senior members of the Government of Albania including Prime Minister Edi Rama, Minister of Energy and Industry Damian Gjiknuri, and Minister of Economic Development, Tourism, Trade and Entrepreneurship Arben Ahmetaj.
Companies that participated in the event include Bankers Petroleum, Petromanas Energy, Trans Adriatic Pipeline, Shell, Polyeco, Aggreko, Weatherford, ARMO and SIGAL. The Albanian Investment Development Agency also took part in the conference.

On October 30^th, 2014, Foreign Investors Association of Albania (FIAA) in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry France-Albanie (CCIFA) organized the Fiscal Package Forum, with an exclusive presentation from the Minister of Finance, Mr. Shkelqim Cani on the novelties and future challenges of the fiscal package 2015.

Present in the Forum was the wide business Community including members and collaborators of both organizations and other stakeholders in Albania.

On October 15^th -16^th, 2014, E.E.L Events Ltd, Intelligent Investment in Emerging Markets organized the 7^th Annual Balkan Energy Finance Forum with FIAA as a Media Partner of the event and with Mr. Gunther Fehlinger as a Moderating Chairman.

The event attracted over 100 participants from over 15 countries and provided an informative and informal environment for networking and debate. The event also provided unique opportunities for industry key players to tackle main issues facing the regional energy security, investigating solutions through stronger regional operation.

On October 15th, 2014, FIAA and KMPG Albania organized a specialized seminar on Transfer Pricing. The Seminar was attended by a high number of Professionals and Company Representatives.

Considering that the Transfer Pricing legislation is now on the Top of the Albanian Tax Authorities’ Agenda and a hot button issue for many companies, the seminar provided useful information on how to comply with the new transfer pricing rules.

On Wednesday, May 21st, 2014 at Sheraton Hotel Tirana, FIAA organized the “Speakers Forum” a new networking format.

The event aimed on bringing together Key Governmental Representatives and the Foreign Business Community. The key Speakers were the Minister of Innovation and Public Administration, Mrs. Milena HARITO and the Minister of Energy and Industry, Mr. Damian GJIKNURI. The Ministers were asked to speak on their main challenges while managing these two key Ministries.
