FIAA’s Energy Industry Council’s members have held regular consultation and meetings and have finalized the Manifest on Current Matters of the Energy Industry. This manifest has introduced the most current issues of the industry and the Council is looking forward to further discuss and tackle them in a Roundtable meeting with the representatives of the Ministry of Energy and relevant stakeholders.

The Tax Committee of FIAA met with the larger base of the members and made a presentation of the key Changes and main challenges encountered in the Newly approved Law on Income Tax that will be effective from January 1st 2024. Mrs. Zarina Taja, Director of Fiscal Harmonization Directory in the Ministry of Finance and her Team, who have been continuously cooperating with FIAA Representatives during the Draft Law consultation phase were present in this meeting.

“Government needs structured feedback from Business on its legislative initiatives”
FIAA: Mr. Constantin, you joined recently Voltalia Albanie as the Country Manager in an important phase such the Project Construction. Could you tell us about this experience of yours in Albania?
Mr. Alvensleben: I started as Country Manager for Voltalia in Albania in November, have now been on the job for half a year and must say that I really enjoy having joined the energy field. Compared with air transport it is a much more competitive sector, and the current situation where Albania is moving to diversifying its energy mix, introducing more solar and more wind energy sources, presents a lot of opportunities.

The members of the FIAA’s Energy Committee gathered in March 31st to discuss on the common concerns and challenges of the Energy Industry in Albania.
During this meeting, it was agreed that the role of the Energy Committee to go to another level, by formally establishing the Energy Industry Council, which will serve as a platform for dialogue and consultation with the Albanian institutional bodies and beyond.

The World Bank Group’s (WBG) Board of Executive Directors endorsed in DC, March 16th, a new five-year Country Partnership Framework for Albania for the period 2023-2027 as well as four new operations.
The strategy aims to help the country recover quickly and transform into a more robust, equitable, resilient, and greener economy, as well as healthier and more productive lives for the Albanian people. The new strategy will focus on three key challenges: more and better jobs, stronger and better use of human capital, and increased resilience to natural disasters and other shocks, all of which will be intersected by efforts to leverage digitalization and enhance inclusion.

At the initiative of H.E Elisabeth Barsacq, Ambassador of France in Albania and Professor Andrea Maliqari, Rector of the Polytechnic University, Ms. Marinela Jazoj represented FIAA in a discussion together with the French Chamber of Commerce in Albania on the collaboration opportunities, which would help to connect Business with Academia. The main focus of discussion was the potential of business to support and develop the Newly graduated Students from Polytechnic University of Tirana by offering them internship opportunities.

The newly established Human Capital Committee under FIAA, chaired by Mrs. Odeta Melo and the FIAA Executive Director Mrs. Marinela Jazoj organized a discussion meeting with the Minister of State for Children and Youth Ms. Bora Muzhaqi, Deputy Minister of Education and Sports Mrs. Albana Tole and Director for Higher Education Policies and Scientific Research Mrs. Ermelinda Durmishi. This meeting was a follow up of the Human Capital Committee’s Agenda having as key focus the establishment of a joint Working Group with the Government Representatives and altogether identify gaps and set priorities, which would support the Human Capital Development and Retention in Albania.
