Foreign Investor Association in Albania hold the Annual Assembly Meeting during the evening of March 20th at Mak Albania Hotel. During the Meeting, the Chairman of FIAA Mr. Larsen addressed some words by highlighting the main achievements and challenges FIAA had during the 2018. He also congratulated the Board Members of FIAA for supporting the FIAA mission and their commitment in particular the Members whose mandate came to the end. The Meeting continued with a Presentation of the activities and actions of FIAA during the year along with the respective financing reports. The second part of the Assembly works was the introduction of the Candidates running for Board Member and their election. The candidates were representing main foreign companies in the country like SHELL, Bankers Petroleum, Colliers International and Kalo & Associates.
FIAA Board of Directors meets with the Minister of State for the Protection of Entrepreneurship in the premises of FIAA
On March 5th the Board of Directors of FIAA had their regular Meeting during which they meet with the New Minister of State for Protection of Entrepreneurship in Albania, Mr. Eduard Shalsi.
The Board welcomed Mr. Shalsi in the premises of FIAA and addressed to him different obstacles that the Foreign Investors are facing in Albania. They highlighted the value of the White Book Document FIAA has prepared, which, can be a good starting point for the Minister to follow his agenda as an Advocate of the Business and Business Climate.

During the Event were introduced as Guests of Honor the newly appointed Ministers respectively, Ms. Belinda Balluku in the quality of Minister for Infrastructure and Energy and Mr. Eduard Shalsi as Minister of State for the Protection of Entrepreneurship in Albania.
The FIAA’s President, Mr. Tom Larsen expressed some remarks and his gratitude to the members who have trusted FIAA throughout its existence and have stayed together for more than 18 years.

RENEXPO, Forum and Trade Fair on Eastern Europe Hydropower
The second edition of the Forum and Trade Fair on Eastern Europe Hydropower organized by REECO Austria GmbH was held on 29th- 30th of November 2018 in Salzburg, Austria.
This activity provided a platform for presenting all investments in the energy field from different European countries with Participants of medium and small hydropower plants, who through this platform could strengthen existing contacts and also create new connections with companies and investors in the field of energy in Europe.

A delegation of FIAA representatives from the Mining Industry has meet with the Deputy Minister for Energy and Industry Mr. Aliko to discuss on the current situation of the mining industry. The talks were mainly focused on the recent changes presented in the New Fiscal Package for the increase of Excise Tax in bituminous coal and related articles which do fiercely affect the ongoing activity of the companies operating in this sector. Other concerns discussed with the Deputy Minister were related with the necessity to incentive Exploration activity in Albania and create new reserves of minerals. The sector representatives stressed out the need that the mining industry has for reviewing the existing legal framework and work towards a sustainable strategy which would make this industry attractive to the eyes of new investors.

Recently, the foreign business community was presented with the second package of Drafts for the Fiscal Package 2019. Being part of the Fiscal Council in the Ministry of Finances, FIAA distributed the proposed articles to its members ‘Community for opinion and feedback. Among the proposed articles which were subject to changes were related with: “Tax Procedures”;“Income Law”; “Excise Law”; “Withholding Tax”, and other articles. FIAA has officially addressed its position to the Ministry of Finances reflecting all the recommendations and opinion of its members. Most of the proposed articles were also addressed during the presentation of the Fiscal Package in the National Economic Council Meeting.
