On October 9th, 2012 FIAA through its representatives of the energy industry in Albania organized the first discussion and brainstorming meeting in order to identify the main concerning issues faced by this industry. This meeting objective was to bringing together the Energy Stakeholders and find the pathway to proper solutions.
The meeting had a wide participation of companies operating in energy sector and financial Institutions Representatives such as EBRD in Tirana, as well as Energy consultants. EBRD in Albania has been actively involved and supportive on energy projects in the country and has always been a valuable collaborator of FIAA to addressing issues faced by business community to the respective authorities. The main issues addressed in this meeting were:
· New Legislation in place and Enforcement.
· Fiscal Issues
· Liberalization of the Energy Market in Albania
· Transparency and Bureaucracy
· Communication with respective authorities.
The new organization structure was named “FIAA’s Energy Committee” and Mr. Dietmar Reiner, Managing Director of Verbund AG/Energji Ashta was appointed as its Chairman. Among the first assignments of the Energy Committee was a letter of Awareness and Cooperation addressed to the Director of Electro-Energy Policies of METE and copied to the Minister of METE. Moreover, issues of the Energy Industry were introduced to the PM of Albania in the meeting discussion that several FIAA Board of Directors had with Mr. Berisha on December 17th, 2012.
