World Bank’s New Country Partnership Framework Supports Greener and More Resilient and Inclusive Growth in Albania

The World Bank Group’s (WBG) Board of Executive Directors endorsed in DC, March 16th, a new five-year Country Partnership Framework for Albania for the period 2023-2027 as well as four new operations.

The strategy aims to help the country recover quickly and transform into a more robust, equitable, resilient, and greener economy, as well as healthier and more productive lives for the Albanian people. The new strategy will focus on three key challenges: more and better jobs, stronger and better use of human capital, and increased resilience to natural disasters and other shocks, all of which will be intersected by efforts to leverage digitalization and enhance inclusion.

EBRD steps up support for tourism and agribusiness in Albania

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), OTP Bank Albania and the Albania Agribusiness and Tourism Support Facility are stepping up their support for companies in the country’s agribusiness and tourism sectors.

Together with the government of Albania and the European Union (EU), the EBRD is committing up to €7.11 million of loans to eligible firms in the agribusiness and tourism sector, risk-shared with its partner bank, OTP Bank Albania. The funds will be provided through the Albania Agribusiness and Tourism Support Facility (AATSF), a framework aimed at improving access to finance for small and medium-sized businesses.

The facility also includes a 10 per cent investment incentive for sub-borrowers in the agribusiness and tourism sectors, funded by the government of Albania and the EU, respectively. Borrowers will receive the grant incentive once their investments have been completed and verified. The facility will also benefit from a government-backed first-loss risk cover mechanism.

Labor Inspectorate and Public Procurement Agency agree on Implementation of Labor Code for Businesses

Businesses should be aware of the obligations to abide by the Labor Code, requiring them to treat their employees fairly and equitably regardless of their gender or other characteristics, according to a Memorandum of Understanding between the State Labor and Social Services Inspectorate (SLSSI) and the Public Procurement Agency (PPA). The agreement was signed on June 14th by Ms. Reida Kashta, director of PPA and Mr. Arben Seferaj, Chief Inspector at the SLSSI.

The signing ceremony was also attended by Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy, Mr. Erjon Luçi, and the World Bank Country Manager in Albania, Ms. Maryam Salim.
