The draft law on the establishment of a National Economic Chamber in Albania gathered around 20 business organizations in Tirana to discuss on several occasions on its content and necessity. The business organizations have been actively engaged by expressing their concerns on the draft content, directed to the Minister of State for Entrepreneurship and Business Climate, the Prime Minister of Albania, and the Diplomatic Corps in the country.

The business organizations consider among others that the draft law lacks the arguments in favor of why the executive is considering moving from a liberal system to a system of compulsory and regulated membership in the organization of chambers. They emphasize the fact that the individual freedom to choose is a fundamental feature of free enterprise.

Furthermore, the Chamber is planned to be financed by the government of Albania for the first two years of activity which poses a direct threat to its independence of action, which is necessary for enabling a stronger voice for business in front of the government.

Even though some of the concerns expressed by the business organizations have been addressed in a rewritten form of the draft law, the two most crucial ones, presented here, remain.

FIAA remains confident that the joint effort of the business organizations will bear fruit and thanks everyone involved in this process for their good will and support.
